Backend Engineer (Payments)

Finterview Demo Co is a Series B fintech in Bengaluru building embedded lending APIs for NBFCs. We are hiring a Backend Engineer (Payments) to design and operate the payment and money-movement services that sit at the core of our lending APIs. You will join a small, senior engineering team where ownership is expected from day one, and where financial rigor and compliance awareness are treated as engineering requirements rather than afterthoughts. This role suits an engineer who enjoys working close to the money — reconciling flows, handling edge cases, and building systems that NBFC partners can rely on.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services for payment processing and money movement within Finterview Demo Co's embedded lending APIs
• Integrate with payment gateways, banks, and NBFC partner systems, handling settlement, reconciliation, and failure/retry paths
• Ensure transaction correctness and auditability, including idempotency, ledger consistency, and clear handling of reversals and refunds
• Work with compliance and product stakeholders to translate regulatory and partner requirements into concrete engineering controls
• Own services in production: monitoring, alerting, on-call response, and root-cause analysis for payment-related incidents
• Write and review code, tests, and design docs with a small senior team that values direct feedback and high standards
• Contribute to API design decisions that affect how NBFC partners integrate with Finterview Demo Co

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional backend engineering experience, including work on payments, lending, or other money-movement systems
• Strong proficiency in at least one backend language (e.g. Java, Go, Python, or Node.js) and relational databases
• Demonstrated understanding of payment flows: authorization, capture, settlement, reconciliation, and chargebacks or reversals
• Experience designing and consuming REST APIs in a service-oriented or microservices environment
• Working knowledge of financial controls such as idempotency, double-entry ledgers, and audit trails
• Comfort operating in a fast-paced, ownership-driven environment with minimal hand-holding
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
